Cheikh's Slow Food Degree Fund

Help Cheikh to pay his initial school deposit and visa fees to achieve his dream of higher education!

If you know me (Emma Giloth) then you have heard about my business partner and inspirational friend Cheikh Thiam. Cheikh does not live in Colorado, he lives in Dakar, Senegal--and he needs your help to take advantage of an educational opportunity of a lifetime! (Believe it or not Africans cannot use most crowdfunding sites so I am helping to facilitate this process. )

SLOW FOOD LEADER

Cheikh Thiam is a social entrepreneur who has been working to promote the principles of sustainable agriculture and holistic development in his country of Senegal for the last ten years.

Working predominantly as a grassroots leader, it is only in the last several years that his work has begun to be recognized, specifically from the Slow Food  community in Italy. Last year he had the honor of being chosen as the Senegal Slow Food Youth delegate  for the international Terra Madre summit in Milan, an opportunity that has invigorated his drive to build the movement for Good, Clean Fair food in West Africa!

Scholarships are not enough!
Cheikh's mission is to champion the principles of Slow Food and permaculture in West Africa, but he lacks the means to lead this movement at the necessary scale. To gain the training and network to reach his full potential, Cheikh plans to attend Slow Food's University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy this September to complete his degree in Sustainable Agriculture.

Gaining this degree is Cheikh's dream, and while the university has offered him scholarship opportunities to pay his tuition, Cheikh does not have enough funds to pay the initial school deposits and visa fees.

School Deposit: $2500
Legalization of (MANY) documents: $600
Visa fees: $900+

Deadline is approaching...
He is working hard to gain these funds, but the deadline is in three weeks and without outside support, he will not be able to retain his spot in the class and get the Italian visa to attend classes in September.

Why Should You Give?

1. You believe that everyone should have access to higher education

2. You believe that we must invest in local leaders to achieve sustainable development

3. You believe in lending a hand to those who need that one extra push to help them to achieve their dreams!!!

Our Gratitude
If there is anyone who will make the most of an opportunity to study sustainable food production and consumption it is Cheikh. We will be eternally grateful to anyone who is willing to help make his dream come true. This dream is bigger than him and the effects will be evident soon enough as he brings trees, ends waste, implements recycling, promotes healthy living and inspires Senegalese youth to recognize their connection with their environment.
