Sloane Conner Ferri 2/1/23-3/12/23
*The tiniest miracle with the biggest personality*
I’m Emily- Claire’s friend & soul sister. I’m writing on behalf of Claire & Chris as they grieve the impossible loss of their precious daughter- Sloane Conner Ferri.
Many of you have questions that I hope I will be able to address here.
If you’ve been following along, you know that Sloane has been a living miracle from the start, shocking every Doctor she came across with her determination, grit, and downright sassy personality.
Born at 23 weeks, she was given the title of “micro-preemie” that her doctors quickly replaced with things like “wildest in the NICU” “plays by her own rules” and simply “a miracle.”
She fought so hard, against so many challenges. When there were doubts & fears, her resilience gave renewed hope & strength to everyone around her.
“Though she be little she be fierce.”
At 2 weeks old, they got the best news- her brain ultrasound results came in. She didn’t have a single trace of bleeding on her brain. A few days later, Claire got to hold her baby girl for the first time. A few days later, Chris held his little girl in his arms. Her grandparents visited, read her stories, and marveled at all her tiny movements and how she perked up the second she heard her parents enter the room.
Early in March, the doctors determined that Sloane would need a surgery at Duke to help mature her lungs. While waiting on a transfer, she developed an infection, and even though she fought, her little body just didn’t have the tools it needed to keep up with the determination that was so clear in her spirit.
Claire & Chris are privately mourning her loss and welcome your thoughts & prayers during this time.
In memory of Sloane, they are working on a memorial garden that will be a daily reminder of the beauty and light she brought into this world. A place to remember, to continue to cultivate & grow, and sometimes, to mourn.
For those of you asking how you can support Claire & Chris during this time, they are asking for donations to their garden fund which can be made here, or for donations to “Dress for Success Raleigh” which can be made directly on their website (directions below).
She might have been small (ok really small) but she proved in her short time how strong she really was. We want to honor that strength and resilience by supporting an organization that uplifts women & helps them achieve economic independence.
Once Sloane's garden is complete, any remaining donations made here to the family will be used towards Sloane's medical bills.
Thank you for loving on my sweet friends right now. They are strong & resilient (I wonder where Sloane got it?) but they are heartbroken and will need time to heal.
We love you sweet Sloane, you will be held in our hearts forever.
