Slinky's Medical Emergency: Your Support Needed
Donation protected
My girlfriend and I recently rescued Slinky, a 3 year old Dachshund, from a shelter on 4/16. Coming home, he was a normal, curious dog; however, everything changed after having Slinky for a day and half. On 4/18, we took Slinky back to the shelter clinic to be seen because he was coughing a concerning amount of time after being neutered, but we were pushed out with the doxycycline that was suppose to be given to us on 4/16 with his adoption. On 4/19, Slinky was rush to the hospital due to persistent coughing and sneezing. Our first visit, he was just diagnosed with kennel cough and gave us a secondary antibiotic (enrofloxacin) and cough suppressant (hydrocodone), along with the doxycycline that he was already taking. We were told it may take a day or two for the medicine to start working. In less than 48 hours, we rushed him back into the hospital as his coughing has gotten worse. Slinky was then rushed in to take chest X-rays. He was put into isolated oxygen and pumped with medication soon after. The vet recommended him to stay in oxygen for 24-72 hours. We started Slinky with 24 hours to get his oxygen levels back up, luckily that is all he needed as of now. The internal medicine doctor concluded that he has bronchopneumonia and is on four different aggressive medications to help him get better. We are currently on high-alert with his recovery.
Our vet bills came out to be a gut-wrenching $5,665.25. We’ve maxed out our credit card and paid the rest out of pocket. The shelter refuses to help us. In two weeks, he goes back into the vet for a checkup and more X-rays to be sure the infection is gone. The X-rays are estimated to be another $500.
We are humbly asking you for your support during this difficult time. Please, anything helps.
