Help Slim and Laura recover from Hurricane Ian
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Greg McElheny, and I live in Colorado; my sister and brother-in-law lost everything they owned in Hurricane Ian. This is a difficult time for many in South West Florida and recognizing that so many people are in need, it is difficult to know where to start. I've decided to start with family.
Laura and Slim have been residents of SWFL for the better part of the last 20 years. They are incredibly plugged into the local community, and both serve the area in different ways. Slim is a local musician who works at restaurants, bars and other venues to earn a living. He is well known in the community and brings so much joy to the people of SWFL who hear him sing and perform. Two venues that are consistent gigs for Slim are entirely gone, and Slim will have to find new opportunities to replace these jobs.
Laura works for an in-home senior care business and considers this her ministry. When talking about the damage and destruction that Ian caused, Laura would only speak about the impact this would have on the senior adults they care for daily. She was more concerned about others than herself in her own time of need.
Slim and Laura's home was/is a total loss. All their possessions, clothing, furniture, bedding, etc., will need to be replaced. Recognizing that this is a monumental task, we need to start somewhere.
Slim's equipment (speakers, guitars, cabling, iPad, etc.) were ruined when the flood waters filled their home. This is how Slim makes his living; we hope to raise enough to replace these items.
We are also hoping to raise enough to assist Slim and Laura as they look to replace the everyday items we take for granted, such as shirts, pants, undergarments, toiletries, etc.
Please consider giving what you can to help as they look to rebuild their lives.
Thank you so very much!
