Slice of Heaven rebuilds after tragic crash

Donation protected
In the early morning hours on February 19, 2024, a vehicle traveling at high speed crashed into Slice of Heaven Bakery & Cafe in Bellingham, WA. The young driver, distraught, accelerated the vehicle around a dangerous S curve in the road and broke through the fence, across the patio and struck the building with such force that it broke through the wall and into the dining area. Miraculously the driver was unhurt and the bakery was closed so no customers or staff were present.

The owners of the small family owned business, Colby & Marci Abshire are faced with extensive damage to the interior and exterior of the building. Because it was an intentional act and not an accident, it is unclear if insurance will cover the repairs and if so, the maximum payout is not enough to cover all of the costs. I’m addition to costs exceeding any insurance coverage, supporting their amazing staff by ensuring they do not lose wages and product loss, Colby & Marci are looking to fundraise to pay for safety upgrades to the fencing to include a concrete barrier to protect their customers and staff. The intersection is notorious for accidents and this is not the first time a car has crashed out front. Safety is their number one concern. If this had of happened during business hours, the unimaginable would’ve happened.

Unfortunately Colby & Marci have depleted their savings to open their dream bakery less than two years ago and do not have the funds to support their staff or safety improvements. Your contribution of any size is much appreciated. Anything helps.
