Sleep Cycle 2024 – combat homelessness and sleep better

Sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. As a medical doctor and neuroscientist, I have dedicated my career to improving lives through sleep research and clinical practice. My 2024 'Sleep Cycle' from Oxford, UK, to the International Neuroscience Conference "FENS Forum" in Vienna, Austria, has three key objectives:

Combat Rough Sleeping
I hope to raise enough money to provide one homeless person with a safe place to sleep for an entire year. Hence, my initial charity goal is to raise £2,000 for Homeless Oxfordshire. With a donation of ~£5.50 you can provide the running costs for one bed in one shelter for one night.

Distribute sleep knowledge and connect sleep experts
Through scientific lectures, public outreach talks, and sleep medicine training sessions, I aim to spread public awareness about the importance of sleep and foster connections among sleep researchers and clinicians across Europe.

Campaign for environmentally friendly conference travel
By cycling approximately 1,800 km through Europe and traveling back by train, I hope to demonstrate that environmentally friendly conference travel is not only possible but should be an imperative for any scientific event.

Your support matters! Whether you can host an event, donate, or simply spread the word, every action brings us closer to our goal. I hope to meet many of you in person between May 29th and June 22nd. Together, we can make a huge difference.

To get involved, please contact me or visit my webpage (https://www.dpag.ox.ac.uk/team/lukas-b-krone). The cycling route and dates of the events will be announced in May.

Thank you so much for your support & sleep well!

I'd like to express my gratitude to my friend and colleague Dr. Kristoffer Fehér for creating the Sleep Cycle logo.
