$55 for 55: Sladen Mohl Memorial Scholarship

South Anchorage Baseball Booster Club (SABBC) is a not-for-profit organization that depends on the generous contributions and support from the greater community. To execute our mission and carry out the Sladen Mohl Memorial Scholarship philosophy, we rely on the generosity and kindness of our support network. 

 

The South Anchorage Baseball Booster Club (SABBC) honors Sladen's memory (South Baseball #55) by assisting a student who exemplifies the same outstanding character, academic, and athletic qualities as Sladen. Each year one senior baseball player is awarded $2,000 to help with their continuing education. This fundraising drive is to assist with building a scholarship endowment. All donations made are designated for the Sladen Mohl Memorial Scholarship fund which will allow SABBC to fund the scholarship for years to come. SABBC chose the GoFundMe platform because of the ease in which individuals can donate across a variety of social media platforms. Each donor will receive a receipt for their donation. 

 

About Sladen:

 

Sladen Mohl was a kind, humble, well-rounded, well-loved, hardworking, and talented young man who grew up in the small, tight-knit ski town of Girdwood, Alaska. Sladen was an avid skier and snowboarder, and he also loved to skateboard. But, at just eight years old, Sladen discovered his love for baseball while playing Little League. He spent his childhood summers playing baseball at the idyllic Girdwood baseball field with the Abbot-o-Rabbit Little League Giants. Later he played for South Anchorage High School, Alaska Gamers Baseball and the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League.

 

After high school, Sladen went on to play baseball in California for El Camino College, where he was the team's starting catcher. Amid the 2019 college baseball season, Sladen was tragically killed by a young impaired driver. His future was bright, and we know he would have accomplished and contributed so much more.

 

Sladen made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was not only a star baseball player; he was an all-around outstanding young man. Sladen is remembered for his kindness, being gentle and humble, strong faith, and love of family and community. When faced with challenges, he demonstrated a fierce work ethic and determination. Sladen led by example and was revered by his teammates. Not only was Sladen an exemplary teammate, but he was also a role model to young baseball players. He loved coaching, and the players he coached loved and looked up to him.
