Skyline High School E-Sports Club
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Matt Donahue, and I am a teacher at Skyline High School in Oakland, CA. Skyline High School has had a E-Sports club for the last two years, but we have run into technology issues. Last year, we were only able to compete in one game which left a lot of students disappointed due to not being able to compete in the games they liked.
Skyline E-Sports Club is looking for money to buy laptops for our students to compete on. We currently only have one laptop good enough to support all the games, but we need at least five to compete in cooperative games (i.e. League of Legends, Rocket League.)
We have a wonderfully diverse student body coming from all across Oakland, CA--many from disadvantaged communities. Over 75% of students have been on free and reduced lunch.
While our school and district officially supports a wide range of team sports, there is a rapidly developing Esports scene that has gone unrecognized in Oakland. Many students hold gaming near and dear to their hearts, and participation in team sports is a tried and true way of getting students invested in and motivated about school. We'd love to provide students with a safe environment to game in, and develop their competitive discipline in a positive way.
E-Sports has become increasingly popular at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Colleges and Universities have been offering scholarships to compete on their E-Sports teams. E-Sports also opens up opportunities for students who traditionally have not been interested in participating in extra-curricular activities.
Our staff and students at Skyline High School thank you for taking the time to consider our fundraiser, and we are hopeful that we will be able to compete in a variety of games in the near future! Thank you!
