Hey! Skylar’s human mommy here.
I’m here hoping for guidance and help through the world of social media.
Thankyou for following us on this journey, we appreciate every second you spend reading with us!

Firstly, let me tell you the story of Skylar.  She was originally brought by someone (via an acquaintance of someone else) with the intensions of breeding her in the future. This person had brought her from what I can gather was a puppy farm, with not much information on background or the breeders.

After a few weeks of the original owner having her, she was rushed into the emergency vets, and put straight onto Oxygen and put under for x-rays to find out why she was having troubles so young.  The xrays showed that her trachea isn't fully developed and is only the size of a chihuahuas, which is very very small for a bulldog!! The x-rays also showed that she had pneumonia which had been on her lungs for a while from the breeders previously.

Following this devostating news about her small trachea, the owners felt that the best option would be to send her back to the breeders and after a short time deliberating, they received the news that the time has "expired" to take her back.

I found this to be very upsetting and felt that it wasn't right to send her back as commitment had already been made to this little pup. A dog they should be your life companion and be given all the love in the entire world no matter what happens, there is always a way to stay positive in hard situations.

So from knowing all of this I had to stand up to what I believe was right morally in my head and my heart and this is when Puppy Skylar came into my life!

Since October 2020 she has been a massive part of my life and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

So, we started off on a bumpy ride but we knew if we stayed strong nothing would get us down. Knowing she had a small trachea and pneumonia we kept her exercise to a minimum and gave her the correct diet to reduce any additional problems whilst she was growing up.

A couple of weeks had passed by and she was once again rushed into the emergency vets due to a severe lack of oxygen to her body. At this point, she was under my care and I was given the heart breaking news that I was to prepare myself that I may lose her. This was the worst news we could have recieved at this time but she kept fighting and recovered well!

I've never seen so much determination in a little bulldog in all my life.

Since then she has been super healthy, happy and has even been neutered. She was living her best life with her puppydog friends and humans.

The sad news is that recently, she has taken a drastic turn for the worst.  Her back legs suddenly started giving way on her, so again she went straight to the good guys at the vets to help us with what they could do. She was started on anti-inflammatory medication which had no effect. The vets then felt she needed futher investigations and decided to do an emergency x-ray to hopefully disagnose hip dysplasia and recieve treatment.

I had high hopes that this was going to be the problem, something that is common in bulldogs, but to my suprise, the vet informed me that there were no indications of any issues with her hips or legs and that the problem is neurological. While trying to process this, the vet hit me with news that she now needs to go under for an MRI scan & surgery, once they have diagnosis on what the cause is. They have also had to refer her to a specialist in Birmingham, called The Willows.

They have told me she would need to be seen ASAP and her bill would be a total of £7,000. I asked about all my options but unfortunately instalment plans aren’t accepted and would need the bill to be paid in full on the day.

As you can imagine I was instantly in shock! I haven’t been allowed to work for almost 4 months as I’m a hairstylist and was shut due to lockdown restrictions. The tax month had been and gone and many more bills that had to be paid which didn’t leave me with £7,000 spare for Skylars unexpected urgent surgery.

Myself, Skaylar and all her friends would appreciate any contributions you can make towards these life changing veterinary treatments. We are hoping to have this little girl back on her feet as soon as possible! We are wishing for the days she can run around with her friends again.

Thank you for all your continued support, even just sharing my story will make a difference!

All my love,

Skylar, family & friends xxxx
