Hi everyone! If you know me, you know that I am not one to ask for help for anything, especially monetary help, so if this is happening, it has to be super urgent. It involves Skylar. I've had Skylar since 2012 when she came to "hang" out at my house while she recuperated from kennel cough from being at a shelter after being picked up from living on the streets in Brooklyn. While it was supposed to be temporary, she crawled her way into my life and she has never left. We have been through a lot together and I would do anything for her. She is now the ripe age of about 11 or 12. Today, September 1st, I had to rush her to the Emergency Room with very labored breathing and she was throwing up phlegm. I noticed something with her breathing last night but was thinking she was hot because it has been very humid. She went out on our nightly walk and she had her dinner and all was good. This morning her breathing was worse and this is when she started "gagging" and throwing up phlegm. She didn't want to go out and she didn't want to eat either this morning. She drank a little water but i dont think she was able to hold that in as she was vomiting. So of course I rushed her to AMC (Animal Medical Center - for those who aren't from NY). As soon as I get there they saw her labored breathing and took her to the back right away. After some examinations and xrays, they determined that Skylar has severe pneumonia. Her lungs are filled with fluid with the right being worse. Her fever was 103. They mentioned she was very lethargic and not even wanting to lift her head. They immediately took her to ICU and put her on oxygen and started her on IV to fight the infection. With her being her age, they mentioned that she would probably be in the ICU for a couple of days. Her estimate for those two days is $5,710.88. I can send the picture of the estimate to anyone who wants to see.

UPDATE AS OF 6PM on 9/1: The doctor called me and said that her breathing is still labored but she did wag her tail at the doc when she went to see her. She’s still lethargic but they are hoping the tail wag is a sign that she’s starting to feel a little better.

You know I wouldn’t ask for help if I wasn’t in a bad predicament and I feel embarrassed asking but this is a lot of money for me and not many people know but l was laid off from my job back in June. I’m working a freelance job but it’s only scheduled for three months (hoping It gets extended). If you can spare anything that would be greatly helpful and very much appreciated. UPDATE AS OF 11:30AM on 9/2: Spoke to the doctor and good news is Skylar has improved. Her fever is down so that's good. She's breathing better but only with the oxygen right now. They are going to start weaning her off throughout the day from the oxygen and hope she continues to improve and able to breath properly on her own. They said she's a little perkier too. They got a few tail wags from her. They will call me later today between 6 - 7 for another update. If she continues to improve she should be able to come home tomorrow.

UPDATE AS OF 8PM on 9/2: Vet called to give me the night update on Skylar’s condition. She responded well to being weaned off the oxygen. She is a little perkier and is being loved on by everyone. She also ate a little which is super exciting. If all goes well tonight, I am able to get her tomorrow and bring her home. She’ll be on medication for a little bit so hoping with that she full recovers and can continue to drive us all crazy with her feistiness! ❤️
