No one ever thinks it will happen until it does. It started on a perfectly "normal" day.  We were hanging out at home, cooking, and getting ready for Thanksgiving in the Holiday spirit when Sky says, "Ummm...Mom, what's this thing on my neck?" From the very second I saw and felt it, my heart sank. I'm pretty sure my soul left my body for a moment. I knew she needed to go to the Dr ASAP! After quite a few Dr visits and going from one place to another for tests, biopsies, etc, we received a call on December 10th with news no one wants to hear. It was that day it was confirmed my baby girl was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Up to this point, as far as we knew, she was a perfectly healthy teenager. She went from being "perfectly fine" that Nov 24th morning to that evening discovering a swollen lymph node on the right side of her neck the size of a golf ball. It all happened so fast!! Within the next few days following, it went from one swollen lymph node to a cluster of roughly 5-6 of them. Each day after the discovery I watched her symptoms worsen..sometimes from morning to night. As a Mom, watching your child go through this and there being absolutely nothing you can do to make it better is the worst feeling ever! To say the last 3 weeks has been a fog or more like a bad dream you can't wake up from is an understatement. She was admitted to Greenville Prisma Health Children's Hospital Oncology  on December 14th. We've been here the last 4 days. Today(Dec 17th) she will receive her first round of chemo treatments with high hopes of making it home before Christmas. Her treatment will consist of 4, 21 day cycles of chemo and possibly radiation at some point. Sky is such a beautiful, amazing, strong warrior and has been so brave every step of the way! She is the BEST big sister to her 4 and 17 yr old brothers, as well as, a full time manager at Walmart and full time student at USC Upstate majoring in Graphic Design. She's been so worried about missing work and concerned about how this will play out with school. But, her health comes first! Many have asked how they can help, and as weird/awkward as it feels creating this, I suppose it's one way that would greatly help as we navigate the long rocky road ahead of us. We both have missed work a lot lately and though she wants to try to work as long as possible, her Drs told her that's really not an option right now. For physical reasons, as well as, to ensure she doesn't catch anything from anyone as her immune system will be really low during it all.  My goal is to work as well; however, my baby girl and her health comes first and I plan to be here with and for her every step of the way!
