Melissa McFadden was diagnosed with a rare aggressive form of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with a tumor that grew inside her major organs in 2011. She is currently in remission after extensive treatment with chemotherapy, radiation, and a stem cell transplant. During treatment she developed severe neuropathy (nerve damage) of her limbs that became irreversible, but tolerable through pain management. In 2018, she was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure and tachycardia due to cardiac toxicity from the chemo and radiation. Late 2018 Melissa received a defibrillator, however in doing so they discovered severe vein stenosis throughout her entire chest cavity. These past 3 years, due to the extensive damage to her heart, lungs, veins, and nerves have led to several blockages in the chest cavity that prevent adequate blood flow to the heart. After several surgeries, including an extensive surgery this past week, doctors have made the conclusion that her entire left vessels leading to and from the heart are chronically blocked and they are not able to get through the blockage to help with relief. This conclusion will now kicked her off the heart transplant list. Her only option now is every 6 months to go under reopening procedures to keep her right stenosis at bay; to have some blood flow to her heart and right-side extremities and/or find another doctor somewhere to take on her case with fresh eyes, new procedures or experimental treatments.
Through all of this, and working part time, she is also currently pursuing a Master's Degree to fulfill her dream is to open a full-service wellness center to try and help others through hard times and take their pain or stress away even if for moments in time. She has never asked for help before but the financial burden has become overwhelming.
