Dear Friends, Family, and Neighbors,
On Thursday, January 31st, our next door neighbors lost almost all of their belongings in a fire that occurred in their building. They must start from scratch without any insurance funds to assist. Everyone is, of course, grateful to be alive.
Two families have been forced to find housing elsewhere while one family has smoke damage in their unit. We are hoping this money can help pay for security deposits for a new apartments, beds, clothing, and basic needs. The families I'm seeking help for have three young children each. One child has had multiple brain surgeries and requires a lot of medication, therapy, and extra help (her expensive medication was lost in the fire).
I want to share a few stories about how wonderful these people are:
- I have an 86 year old mother who currently lives with me. They are always helping my mother in and out of the car, or carrying a bag for her, or just checking in on her. The kids even call her Grandma and they love sitting on our front steps to play games with her. She loves their company and looks forward to the summertime when she can hang outside with them and watch them play.
- I spoke with one family as they attempted to try to save a few of their items. During our conversation, they spoke mostly of their concern for the other family. So selfless.
We are so sad to see our friends have everything taken from them. In this time of terrible tragedy we open our hearts and lean on our friends and community. I know together we can accomplish so much. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
- Cathy Christopoulos and Family
Additionally, they are searching for new apartments in the 73.5 school district (rent/month = $900-$1,200). If anyone knows of a clean apartment that is available, please contact me.
