The inspiration for the 'Skén:nen Í:ken - Peace Maker Program - Programme de Paix' came following 'Consciousness & Creativity' an event organized by the David Lynch Foundation Canada and Global Country of World Peace, the teaching organization for Transcendental Meditation in Canada.

"Consciousness & Creativity" featured Bob Roth and iconic filmmaker David Lynch and was hosted by Jean-François Ruel, Québéçois rapper and actor (Fugueuse).

The event held on Monday, June 3 at Concordia's D.B. Clarke Theatre was sold-out.

The audience included film students, seekers, and TM meditators in approximately equal measure.

David Lynch answered questions on a wide range of topics from the audience for about 50 minutes and was, as usual, funny and authentic. Earlier in the afternoon it was announced that he will be presented with a life-time achievement Oscar in the fall. Well-deserved in our opinion.

Bob explained the science of TM, and how the David Lynch Foundation, of which he is CEO, has taught TM to over a million at-risk youth around the world - for free! Bob, author of the New York Times Bestseller "Strength in Stillness: the Power of Transcendental Meditation", donates 100% of his royalties to make TM available for free to at-risk populations worldwide. "La force du silence", the Québec version of Strength in Stillness was released earlier in the day. Once again Bob will donate all royalties to teach TM to at-risk populations.

For many, the highlight of the evening were the wise and passionate voices of our Mohawk neighbours from Kahnawà:ke. Ka’nahsohon Kevin Deer (pictured above), Faithkeeper at the Mohawk Trail Longhouse, welcomed everyone in the Mohawk language to traditional Mohawk Nation Territory. During the Q&A Ienonhsaka'én:ions Trina Stacey asked David to make TM available to her people who are suffering from the "epigenetic transmission of intergenerational trauma that's a result of colonization". Inspired by David's advice to fundraise locally, these bold voices, with the support of Montréal TM Centre and its teachers have launched 'Skén:nen Í:ken - Peace Maker Program - Programme de Paix' to teach TM for free to members of Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Nation.

The cost for First Nations to learn TM with lifelong support is just $655 - half the regular adult course fee. So with $6,550 we'll be able to teach TM for free to 10 members of the Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Nation, and create teaching materials in the Mohawk language. In order to continue the momentum that is building we'll ask those learning to 'pay it forward' by donating to 'Skén:nen Í:ken - Peace Maker Program - Programme de Paix' to whatever extent they can afford.  To jumpstart the program, our teachers are donating their time for the initial series of courses which will allow even more in the community to start.

The next step in our plan is to inspire Mohawk speakers to become Certified Teachers of Transcendental Meditation so that the 'Skén:nen Í:ken - Peace Maker Program - Programme de Paix' can offer TM Instruction in Mohawk.

'Skén:nen Í:ken - Peace Maker Program - Programme de Paix' will be administered by members of the Mohawk community.

Thanking everyone in advance for your support!

Please note that your donation is not tax deductible as Global Country of World Peace Canada is not a registered charity.
