My father, Walter Whitfield, Jr. (Skip as he liked to be called) was an incredible man. Warm. Kind. Soft-hearted. Generous. He was a man that loved the Lord and looked for every opportunity to sing his Savior's praises.
My Dad was a Navy man. You never had to wonder how he felt about being a soldier. He was proud of his service and grateful for every other man or woman who sacrificed for our country.
Perhaps closest to my heart was my father's love for his family. When I say family, I don't simply mean the ones tied to him through blood. I mean every soul tied to him with love. His heart was so big, he couldn't help caring for others, and it showed in everything he did.
The last year was extremely difficult for my father. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and by the time the diagnosis came, it had already progressed to the point where there was very little we could do. We watched as his body began to weaken, and his heart began longing for Heaven.
On May 18, 2020, my beautiful father went home to be with the Lord. His suffering was now at an end, and he could finally see his dear wife again. It was difficult to say goodbye. It still is, even knowing he is now at peace. But it is our job now to keep moving forward.
Today, we lay him to rest, and though we would like to give him the best possible funeral that money could buy, we are only able to do so much. It isn't easy knowing he won't have everything he deserves, but my Dad was a simple man who appreciated the small things.
We have set up this fundraiser to request help in paying for our father's funeral expenses. We know times are tough, and sometimes, we simply don't have the ability to help. We are just grateful you have taken the time to read about our father. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and may God bless you and keep you.
