Hello all, if you're taking the time to read this post, then you already know me. In recent months, a friend of mine and his family have been experiencing some severe medical/financial hardships, and as any of y'all with children should know, moments like these are petrifying. This post is regarding my friend, Joel De La Campa, and his family. Since the first couple of days of December 2022, his 3-year-old son Jeremy and Joel's wife Laura have been in the hospital(s) due to what first appeared as a possible liver complication after Jeremy had the flu. Joel and his wife noticed that he had yellow discoloration in his eyes the morning after he was on the recovery of the flu symptoms, so they took him to the local ER. After several appointments with surrounding doctors, it was noted that the issue was much more serious than they could have imagined. After multiple days at North Central Baptist Hospital, it was found that Jeremy had begun acute liver failure. This new diagnosis began a whole new journey for recovery and a relocation to the University Health System (UHS). Jeremy would end up needing a liver transplant due to how severe his case developed, and Joel and his wife began exploring all options. Since Jeremy was so small, the doctors were worried about the size of the livers for transplants, and many possible donors would get ruled out simply being adults. Through good favor, Jeremy's mother ended up being a perfect donor candidate and immediately began preparing for operation once all labs and testing cleared her. The transplant was a success due to the wonderful team at the UHS, and now Jeremy and his mother are on the road to recovery. Joel and Laura have been riddled with thousands of dollars of medical debt since this illness arose, and they also have three other children at home who have also been affected mentally, emotionally and spiritually due to their newfound lack of seeing their brother. This brings me here in hope for prayers, positive thoughts, and any monetary donations that people are willing to make. All proceeds will be going to offset medical debt/used on maintaining balance in their family life. Thank you and God bless!
