“Skip” Haas MS relief fund

Hello, My name is Jacqui. Im setting this up for my brother Scott, most everyone knows him as Skip, a nickname given to him after he almost lost his leg in a motorcycle accident at a young age, it was saved and he walked away w a "skip" in his step.

In July of 2022 he was diagnosed with MS. Multiple Sclerosis is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system.) In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. MS causes loss of body functions and could result in numbness, vision problems, difficulty walking and paralysis.

Its not the news anyone wants to get and has turned his life upside down.
There is no cure for MS, symptoms are different for everyone and affect them both physically and emotionally. His symptoms started with pain and numbness in his feet, he ignored them thinking it was maybe a pinched nerve due to leg / hip issues casued by the accident. But with the loss of motor function in his right hand, and new balance issues that even his employer was seeing, he couldnt ignore the changes any longer and finally went to see a specialist in June. Since starting his steroid and Ocrevus treatments, the lesions on his brain have not grown but the lesion on his spine has, which resulted in him having to undergo a second round of steriod infusions last month. The stresses of everyday life with this debilitating disease have also grown, because most of his lesions are located in his spinal cord he will continue to struggle with chronic pain, fatigue, weakness, vertigo, numbness, trouble walking and balance issues, these symptoms that come with MS prevent him from working and living life to its fullest. Its hard to see someone you love, whos always been very optimistic even against the toughest odds, struggle and seem so defeated. He understands this is somthing he will have to face for the rest of his life. He is also very prideful and hasnt wanted to reach out for help, but he is down to the last of his savings and is STILL waiting on his disability case to be finalized. Im setting this up in hopes it will help him through a difficult financial situation, until he gets his disabilily and so he can see that hes not fighting this alone.
It takes a village sometimes!!
I want him to know that he has the support of his friends and family while he tries to navigate this life altering diagnosis.
We greatly appriciate any contribution, support or helpful contacts that you mayhave for Skip.
Thank you.

Tuesday the 14th Scott will be receiving his first full dose of Ocrevus. They broke it up into two doses last time. Keep him in your thoughts as he’s sitting through the 8-10 hour infusion.
