I would never normally do this, but I feel like it is necessary under the circumstances.  My mother, Janet Kramer has been dealing with many health issues and 2 lengthy hospitalizations since April; we just found out that the cancer that she has battled thrice before is back and it has transformed into a much more aggressive form and has metastasized to her bladder, spleen, lymphnodes and pelvic/hip bones. The good news is that even though she has been through so much and is very, very weak and fragile, this cancer is highly responsive to treatment! She has been in the hospital for an infection and also received her first round of chemo. I am here in Oregon right now to try to set up services etc for the road ahead. My dad and I met with the social worker and have applied for everything available; the problem is that these valuable resources take time to establish, especially with Covid-19 (45 to 60 days). The main concern in the interim is hiring an at home caregiver. These professionals charge about $30 an hour and require 3 hrs minimum. The hospital is recommending 3 hrs 3x per week. While this is by no means an unreasonable price to pay for such special caregivers, it is more than myself or my parents can do at the moment.
