Hi I'm Julia Hanus,
I have been skiing since I was two years old and alpine racing since I was five. I realized this was what I was passionate about and wanted to pursue it as far as I could. I found Burke Mountain Academy, a small ski racing academy in northern Vermont. I graduated in June 2019 and I now attend Green Mountain Valley School for my post graduate year.
Through Burke I have been able to race my first Nor Ams, US Junior Nationals and be a top contender on both the Eastern Cup Circuit and Developmental Circuit. I have had the opportunity to travel for my sport and this has helped me grow as an athlete and a person.
Ski racing is expensive. The equipment and the need to be on snow are both incredibly costly. My goal is to ski for a Division One college and to do this I need one more year before I can go. This postgraduate year is vital to my ability to ski for a D1 team, but it is also demanding.
I spent the summer working in an ice cream shop but even with the many hours of work I am not able to cover the expenses on my own. With the summer job and the donations I have received thus far I have been able to pay for my first training trip! I cannot thank everyone enough for their contributions. I now would accept any help towards my fall training trip. Ski racing is and has been my life for over a decade and being forced to give it up due to money would be devastating. Any help or any kind of donation would be really really appreciated.
THANK YOU!
