Sketchy Mutts and Underdogs Building Renovation
Tax deductible
With the help of a very generous donor, we have purchased the forever home for Sketchy Mutts and Underdogs!
The property has an existing building and land for growth. We are working with an architect, who is generously donating his time, on plans to make this building fit for our purpose.
The new property will allow us to:
- Expand our capacity to care for dogs following acute medical treatment. Currently, 45% of the dogs we pull overall and 60% of the dogs we pull from IACS, have medical needs beyond spay/neuter and vaccination. However, there are many times that we are asked to pull an acutely ill or injured dog and we have to say no because do not have an open foster and are unable to quickly put a new foster in place. The facility will give us the space and flexibility to accept those dogs into the rescue immediately.
- House a small number of “sanctuary” dogs. These are dogs that have such specific behavioral or medical needs that adoption is unlikely, but they can live happily with us for the rest of their lives.
- Dedicate a small suite to pregnant mothers. Momma dogs need a non-stressful environment in which to have their puppies and care for them until they are ready to be weaned. This suite could also be used for young litters who have lost or been rejected by their mothers and need to be bottle-fed. In either case, tiny puppies with weak immune systems need an environment free of adult dog germs in which to thrive.
- Have a secure area in which to house “only” dogs, meaning dogs that because of past experiences are unable to safely live in a multi-dog home. These dogs are extremely hard to place into adoptive homes but we believe they deserve a loving place to live.
The building remodel and construction of outdoor play yards is a HUGE undertaking and we have set a very ambitious goal of raising $100,000 by March 31.
