Skateboarding Meet-ups for Beginners

Hi everyone,

Thank you for reading this. Rooted in a mental health initiative for youth, we use skateboarding as the connection point. We call this passion project Skateboarding is Positive (SIP). Our tagline is "Skate the Up's and Down's".

We try to organize youth events in the form of skateboarding meet-ups for beginners. This is where youth can try skateboarding in a welcoming and psychologically safe setting.
We started this last summer, the summer of 2019, where youth attendees increased between May and September. but the situation now is that the local city has asked for park permits and insurance for the meet-ups. This is difficult for SIP because we planned to actually deliver all meet-ups as free community initiatives this summer. All of our prior youth mentors we call them, and photos/videos, were fuelled by volunteers.

Our goal is one meet-up a month between May-September 2020 (five in total). If we can continue this, we will even hand out our 5-Day planner to teach youth healthy habits and gratitude (see below for a preview!).46074630_1583845174330754_r.jpeg
We hope to use the funds for the park permits (~$650 CDN over 5 events) and insurance (~$2075 CDN over 5 events). We then thought it would be nice to use some funds towards swag (such as stickers) to give to youth when they attend the meet-ups (~$750 over 5 events for stickers, t-shirts, and hats) - thus a total goal of $3500 CDN.

The goal is for our first event, in May, is on the 24th (May 24th, 2020) here in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada.
