On August 1, 2026, I'll leave the Oxford Skatepark in Oxford, Mississippi, and push more than 1,100 miles to New York City, traveling by skateboard and on foot when necessary. My goal is to arrive on or before September 3, 2026, exactly two years after my brother Justin died by suicide.
I'm calling this journey Push for Prevention.
Justin introduced me to skateboarding at a young age, and it has been a huge part of my life ever since. After recently graduating from the University of Mississippi and preparing to move to New York, I realized I had a unique opportunity to make the transition in a way that honors my brother's memory while supporting a cause that's deeply personal to me.
This journey is about encouraging more open conversations around mental health and suicide prevention. My hope is to help break the stigma surrounding mental health by reminding people that it's okay to ask for help, see a therapist, and check in on one another.
I've planned this trip to be as cost-efficient as possible. I expect to spend most nights camping at public campgrounds, with occasional hotel stays during severe weather or when camping isn't available. Every effort will be made to keep expenses low while safely completing the journey.
Your donation will help cover the costs of completing the journey, including but not limited to:
- Food and hydration
- Campground fees and occasional hotel stays
- Replacement skate shoes and equipment
- Emergency expenses
- Documenting and sharing the journey
Any funds remaining after trip expenses will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and The Ben Raemers Foundation to support their work in mental health and suicide prevention.
If you'd like to support this journey, there are many ways to help. Whether it's donating, sharing this campaign, following the journey, or connecting me with someone along the route who may be able to offer a place to stay, a meal, or local advice, I'd be incredibly grateful. Every bit of support helps, and I truly appreciate everyone who chooses to be part of this journey.
I'll continue updating this page over the next few weeks with more details and the best ways to follow along. As of right now, I plan on sharing updates through social media (FB/IG) with photos, videos, and stories from the road whenever possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for helping make this journey possible.
Thank you,
Skyler
