Help William walk again!
Hello we are family and friends reaching out to anyone open to donate to the medical costs for William Tejeda!
He was the front seat passenger in a major car accident in Oxnard, CA on May 31, 2020. The car he was in was totaled with the majority of the damage being done to the front seat passenger side.
He was hit by an intoxicated driver who is unlicensed and uninsured. Luckily he survived but is currently bedridden until September 16, 2020. To heal completely, he has been given a prospective date of January 1, 2021.
William was taken to the trauma center at the Ventura County Medical Center with a completely crushed right leg including three femur fractures: at the knee, right down middle, and at the hip neck. Also bruised ribs and abdomen. Emergency repair surgery was performed on June 1, 2020 and he was placed in the ICU for two weeks.
William has been prescribed home help and home rehab care which would speed up his recovery. Important proper medical rehab procedures are being delayed! In lieu of holding up his recovery any further, we are going forward with the outpatient rehab therapy paying out of pocket as we can. Each visit ranges from $600-$1000 dollars with two visits a week, that’s 24 visits until September 16, 2020 totaling up to $14,400. Up to this point we privately raised money on our own including savings. This is an example of one of William’s many outstanding invoices:
After consulting with our legal team we have learned that the personal financial medical burden now falls on William per California law as the at fault driver is uninsured and his driver only had basic liability car insurance. No pain and suffering will be recovered in this instance.
Unfortunately due to COVID and a work furlough, William’s personal health insurance is not active. He has applied for Medi-Cal to help with the mounting financial burden but is on a wait list behind everyone else during this pandemic.
No rehabilitation facility was able to take him. He was unable to leave the hospital until a rehabilitation facility accepted him delaying his stay and contributing to the financial toll.
Possibly delaying his recovery, but with his hard work and with the hospital physical therapist’s approval, he was released to go home with a long list of prescriptions for medications and self assisting devices (wheelchair, walker, cane etc...) which have been paid for out of pocket so far thanks to help from family and savings. This also freed up an ICU bed since the ICU was nearing capacity due to the pandemic.
Throughout his two week hospital stay William was alone and was not able to have family or visitors.
Because of the lack of physical movement due to the broken leg, the chest impact, and being exposed to a COVID ICU environment (he’s tested negative twice for COVID also contributing to mounting financial burden) William is being closely monitored for pneumonia.
He began to lose his hair due to the side effects of some of his strong IV medication and the stress.
Currently William utilizes the basic excersizes given to him out of surgery and YouTube tips for stretching.
If you could support our GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, we would greatly appreciate it! We know that money can be tight, so please know that anything helps. Any questions and we will be happy to answer them. All donations will go directly towards Williams’s rehabilitation, mortgage, and transportation. Let’s get this kind, hard worker back on his feet!
Bless.
