Sjuka och undernärda kattungar i Theologos

On June 15, my two children and I returned home from a trip to the small village of Theologos on the island of Rhodes. What was meant to be a relaxing week quickly turned into something else — something heartbreaking.

We came across two cat families living in terrible conditions. The mothers were sick, infested with worms, and their tiny kittens were severely malnourished. One of the mother cats, along with her two kittens, sought shelter on our terrace. We did everything we could: we fed them, gave them water, made them a warm bed, and tried to provide comfort. Sadly, one of the kittens passed away from feline distemper. Our hearts broke into a thousand pieces.

We couldn’t turn a blind eye to their suffering. Right then and there, we made a decision: we have to help them. We now want to bring the surviving kittens to Sweden where they can receive care, love, and a chance at a dignified life — something they’ve never had.

But it takes resources. That’s why we’re now asking for your help.

• Transport to Sweden

• Spaying and treatment for the mother cats

Den 15 juni kom jag och mina två barn hem från en resa till den lilla byn Theologos på Rhodos. Det som skulle vara en veckas avkoppling förvandlades snabbt till något helt annat – något hjärtskärande.

Vi stötte på två kattfamiljer som levde i misär. Mammorna var sjuka, fulla av mask, och deras små ungar var kraftigt undernärda. En av katthonorna, tillsammans med sina två ungar, sökte skydd på vår terrass. Vi gjorde allt vi kunde: matade dem, gav dem vatten, bäddade med filtar och försökte ge dem trygghet. Tyvärr dog en av ungarna i kattpest. Våra hjärtan gick i tusen bitar.

Vi kunde inte blunda för lidandet. Där och då bestämde vi oss: vi måste hjälpa dem. Vi vill nu ta hem ungarna till Sverige där de kan få vård, kärlek och ett värdigt liv – något de aldrig haft.

Men det kräver resurser. Därför ber vi nu om din hjälp.
