Stacy Fitzgerald: Victory Over Cancer
Donation protected
Stacy Fitzgerald – our sister & daughter, our cousin & aunt, and our friend.
Stacy Fitzgerald was born & raised in Sussex County, DE, just a few steps away from the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk. You may have crossed paths with Stacy over the years as she has worked around town at some of our favorite spots – the Rehoboth Art League, Java Beach Café, Synder’s Candy Store, Arena's Deli, Heidi Lowe Gallery, Half Full in Lewes and most recently as a beer & wine rep for Bottle & Brew Selections.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Stacy was admitted to the ER at Beebe Healthcare and underwent a series of tests, finding out shortly after she has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Cervical Cancer. An additional PET scan confirmed the diagnosis, in addition to a discovery of a tumor pressing on her nerve endings, creating excruciating & unbearable pain and discomfort.
Both radiation & chemotherapy treatments began on January 9, 2020 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Stacy’s treatments consisted of 5 days a week of radiation and one day a week of chemotherapy. Stacy rang her chemotherapy bell on February 18th, and began her internal radiation the next day, which she is currently still undergoing. As of late February, the doctors have been able to reduce the size of the tumor by 75%.
In the last few weeks, Stacy’s blood cell and platelet counts are trending very low, as well as her magnesium and potassium levels. This has postponed a handful of treatments, which Stacy will have to make up when the counts rise. We are hoping for her makeup treatments to be scheduled at the end of this week.
The last few months have consisted of traveling to/from Christiana Hospital for treatments, in addition to meeting with a team of specialists to monitor Stacy’s pain management, radiation, chemotherapy, dietary plans, mental health plan, etc. If you know Stacy, you will not be surprised to know she bought a pretty little notebook, some super cute pens and fancy folders to help her track her information and progress.
Here is where we need YOUR HELP.
We are asking you to donate to support Stacy’s ongoing battle of cervical cancer.
Your donation will go towards the extensive financial burdens of emergency room and medical bills (cost of doctor visits, emergency surgery, hospital stays, extensive imaging and scans, radiation, chemotherapy, etc), transportation to and from Christiana Hospital (gas, tolls, meals, follow up visits, etc), and loss of income (Stacy has been unable to work since last fall).
Thank you to all who have shown an immense amount of support for Stacy and her family. So many people have already come together to help pay for a hotel room, for the last two weeks, so Stacy can focus on her recovery closer to Christiana Hospital. In addition, the little notes, prayers, supportive words and help have been overwhelming.
The local Sussex County community and surrounding businesses have already been extremely generous with donating items for a future fundraising event and raffle. More information on the event will follow.
We will update everyone on Stacy’s progress as she continues to fight this battle; Cancer has truly messed with the wrong girl.
Thank you again,
Stacy’s Family & Friends
