Help Penny BEAT CANCER!

Hi there,

Our names are Karina & Chris. We are the proud owners of a sweet 2 yr old lab mix named Penny, whom we rescued in November of 2021 from our local Humane Society. We recently added a baby girl, Sienna, and have 2 other daughters. (Poor Chris is surrounded by girls! Lol)

Last Monday (June 27) seemed like an ordinary day. After dinner, we noticed Penny had a small shuffle with her hind legs but we didn’t think anything of it. Tuesday, June 28, it got a little worse but we still didn’t think anything of it as she was still having her typical zoomies. Wednesday, Penny woke up with less mobility on her hind legs so we took her to the vet. Her vet advised us that we should take her to a neurologist as her symptoms were presenting with a neurological issue. Here’s where our days got worse. Friday (July 1) , Penny could not use her hind legs at all. We were so heartbroken to see our once happy zoomie girl unable to walk. We had a neuro appointment that same day. After the consultation, the doctor thought a MRI would give us the best answers for what was happening to our sweet girl.

Financially, this was a huge strain for our family as we are both educators. Once Penny was out of the MRI, we spoke to the doctor who gave us the results. The doctor is almost certain that Penny has an extremely rare tumor (Nephroblastoma) pressing on her spine which is causing her inability to walk. We were offered 3 solutions for this diagnosis: surgery, radiation, or a palliative care option of steroids. We opted for the steroids for now as we are essentially maxed out of spending any money. Tuesday we will be consulting with an oncologist for further recommendations.

At this point, we don’t know what else to do for our girl. We promised our girls we would fight for their best friend, Penny. If you are able to help us in any way, we are more than willing to do whatever it takes.

The funds we are raising here will go directly to her surgery and or radiation therapy.
