The campaign to keep coal out of Oakland has become Keep Coal Out East Bay as we work with our allies across the Bay Area (and in coal-producing states) to assure that coal will never be shipped from our waterfront.

At the end of September, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 40. Now, if developers apply for permits to build a marine terminal in West Oakland, there must be a rigorous Environmental Impact Report. The delay, cost, and uncertainty of an EIR can deter prospective investors and would lead to safety mitigations if the terminal were permitted.

And a Kentucky judge threw out a lawsuit alleging the City of Oakland owed the developers a billion dollars for profits they claimed they lost because the terminal has not been built.

We have organized working groups to reach residents all along the rail line, organize key sectors of the community, and create the infrastructure for our work. More volunteers are welcome.
