I swore I would never ever do this again... friends have helped us out so much over the years, and asking for money once again is deeply humiliating (as is the picture of me, but GoFundMe insists on a picture). I wouldn't blame you a bit if you just say, "Oh, look! There's Steve, begging again." That's what I feel as though I'm doing. But I see no choice. Here's the situation: I've been suffering with extremely high levels of anxiety over the past few weeks... and now it's off the charts. I'm truly concerned that it might cause health problems... and now it's gotten worse.
I made a terrible mistake a few months ago when I switched jobs, and the new job was so physically taxing, my 67-year-old body said: "No. You're not doing this anymore." That's when the anxiety problems developed. Anyway, I now work only part-time, and have been driving for Lyft to keep body and soul together. Yesterday on the way home from work, the car I use for Lyft made a scary sound, lights started flashing, bells started ringing, and the car slowly lost power. Because of a lack of money, I had let my AAA membership lapse at the end of June for the first time in years.... but I re-instated it this morning.
We have another car, a 2005 PT Cruiser, and even though AAA came out today and charged the battery, that car is apparently dead in the parking lot. It won't start.
I do have an extended warranty on the Sonic, but there's a $100 deductible... and the nearest authorized repair shop is about 30 miles away, so by my calculations the AAA towing rate would put that cost at about $200. I hope to have the car towed up to that shop on Monday... but in the meantime, I have no way to get to work, and about $140 to my name.
I need to be able to get to work, and to start driving for Lyft once again... Any help will be be most humbly and gratefully accepted. $5, $10... any gift will help more than you know.
I will do everything I can to pay it forward... and again, my very humble and grateful thanks.
