Support My Vision: Music for Six Double Bassists

Hello, wonderful friends, musicians, and Australian jazz and improvised music community supporters! This is drummer Chloe Kim. Today, I warmly welcome you and humbly request your assistance in bringing my musical vision to life.

In April this year, I composed new music for multiple double bassists and had the joy of debuting it live (https://youtube.com/shorts/CG6-za7B8BM?feature=share). The composition of five distinct movements with approximately 40 minutes of duration embraces improvisation and showcases catchy melodies, harmonically evolving sections, dynamic rhythmic interactions, and the organic beauty of the double bass as a musical instrument.

I am now ready to take it to the next level by recording an album. It is thrilling that the incredible talents, kind hearts, and renowned bassists have agreed to be featured: Jonathan Zwartz and Jacques Emery from Sydney, along with Helen Svoboda, Oscar Neyland, Paddy Fitzgerald, and Harry Birch from Melbourne.

We will get together on the 7th of July in Melbourne. With the support of a generous friend and fantastic audio engineer, Pat Telfer, the music, exceptional performances, and high-quality sound will be captured. I then plan to mix, master, and release it by the end of this year.

To make this project a reality, the budget I have estimated includes:
- a minimum artist fee of $1,800 ($300 per bassist)
- a $1,000 travelling and accommodation fee for Sydneysiders
- a $1,500 for mixing and mastering and
- a per diem of $500.
In total, I am aiming to raise around $5,000 to cover these essential expenses.

However, the challenge I face is: as I am not yet a permanent resident or citizen of Australia, I am unable to apply for other funding or grant opportunities, nor I am eligible to be a nominee for awards with prizes. That's why I am reaching out to you.

I want to emphasise that every contribution, regardless of its size, is invaluable and will play a crucial role in bringing this project to life. I envision this album as an essential platform to document and preserve the current sounds and music that thrive within our community. Furthermore, your support will encourage my momentum and growth as a composer. With your help, I can continue building meeting points for creative minds, fostering collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of jazz and improvised music.

Thank you for considering to be a part of this journey and supporting my vision. I am deeply grateful for your belief in me and your unwavering support.
