This is the second year that the Southern Illinois University - Carbondale Concrete Canoe Team (Commander in Chief) has won first place at our regional competition and will be moving on to represent our region at the national level.
At the regional level, and especially, the national level of this competition we consistently fall as one of the teams with the smallest production cost. Our canoe cost a total of approximately $600 (for mold and materials). The second place team had a "modest" budget of over $4,000!
For our team to even qualify for the National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) is a huge accomplishment, but making it there is going to be a whole new feat!
The fee for this year's competition is $325 per person (this includes: housing, meals, and registration).
We have a total of 28 active and worthy members on this year's team, but due to monetary restraints we will only be taking 15 people to NCCC.
This totals to $4,875 which must be paid by June 3.
(not including: gas and truck/trailer rental)
As captain of the Concrete Canoe Team this year, I am ecstatic to see that all of the hard work, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights have proved to be worth it in the end!
I am immensely grateful for the great leadership of past members and captains that helped build us to this level of success, and for all of the endlessly dedicated members of this year's team that made our dream of becoming a nationally recognized team a reality!
I am forever grateful for the friendships, connections, and experiences this team has allotted me!
Please consider supporting this year's SIUC Concrete Canoe Team! Any contributions are greatly appreciated!
