An Introduction to a Missionary...
Jessica Siler is a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Just like other missionaries who volunteer from other denominations, LDS Missionaries are sent around the world as full time followers of Christ, to minister the truth and life of Jesus. Her mission is simple: to invite people unto Christ. Sister Siler has spent the past 16 months of her life serving a mission here in the United States; focusing her efforts in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina.

WITH ONLY 2 MONTHS LEFT ON HER MISSION, I know it has been an experience of a lifetime, both challenging and delightful. She has had the chance to meet new people, share how the gospel of Jesus Christ changed her life, and teach (through the spirit) many people here in TN, GA and NC.

Every week Sister Siler shares her story by email with dozens of people she has met on her mission and the people she knew back home before she left. And every week she continues to share her insights and revelations, her enthusiam and commitment, and is always sure to reflect on how her experiences continue to shape her testimony and her love for other people. I have been one of the lucky ones with the opportunity to spend time with her for 7 months and I have seen how much she loves people! Her joy for life, contagious smile and generous spirit is what first drew me to her here in Sevierville, TN. She's one of the kindest souls I have ever met and is a great example of charity and Christlike love. Her decision to serve on a full time mission has blessed so many individuals and families, including my own, and for that I wish to say "Thank you!"

A little bit about Sister Siler...
She is 22 years old and from Oregon.
Played College Basketball for Walla Walla University and gave up a scholarship to come on a mission.
First baptized only 3 years ago and is the only person in her family who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She comes from meager means and strives to attain high personal goals despite low-income circumstances.

Why are we doing this? Where is your money going?
I am raising money because I want to be able to help Sister Siler transition back from her mission with ease; giving her the opportunity to find housing and providing the necessities of everyday life - food, water, clothing - until school begins. I planned to give her a monetary gift myself when her mission ended but soon realized we could raise more money as a community!

Sister Siler's return home is in 2 months AND THE BIGGIEST CATCH is that "HOME" is something she doesn't have. Deciding to come on a mission she literally gave up everything to come here and will be starting from scratch. I know that she is driven to be self-reliant and independent but I also know that by helping her we will be able to significantly lessen the burden she faces to get back on her feet. We could all use a little help from time to time, right?!?

She plans to finish going to college/start a new life after serving and wants to attend BYU-Idaho in the Spring. My research shows that tuition, fees and housing estimates are $5,770 per semester and as anyone knows these costs are not all inclusive.

By raising money for school costs (tuition, textbooks, etc) we can ensure her ability to pay for all the other things she may need for school (food, clothing, etc). She may be eligble for Student AID to help cover costs once school begins but that is not guaranteed. My goal is just to raise enough money for at least 1 semester of school and the cost of living until she is able to secure employment and/or student loans. This money will be presented to her as a gift when she returns home from her mission.

3 Reasons why we should help...
1) To give back to someone who has given so much to others already. She is always generous with her time, knowledge, and skills. Even though she has never had much, she is always willing to give what she does have to others and that is an AMAZING EXAMPLE to us all!
2) Helping others help themselves. Anyone who has met Sister Siler will tell you that she is a hard worker who has a history of self-reliance. I know that if we can support her slightly in this transition she will be able to make the other ends meet.
3) Lastly, because she comes from a family that has always struggled, I want to support her in breaking that cycle and continuing on the path she has chosen. No one has the luxury to choose their lot in life and there is no exception here. She is truly an example of someone who did not let their surroundings define them. Her perserverance to work hard and constantly stand for what is right is a reminder to us all to do our best...and endure to the end!

Please help me to support Sister Siler and translate your appreciation into a tangible "Thank you!"
