No one can prepare you to receiving a diagnosis of cancer. In October of 2020 Judith  Gabaldon Baca went in for a follow up appointment after a preventative care visit for the results of her mammogram. After being taken back to a private room, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was immediately scheduled for surgery. At this point the family was trying to figure out next steps of where to go with this news and how best to support Judith in her journey. Another blow to the family hit when 3 weeks later Edith Gabaldon Gallegos (Judith’s sister) decided to get checked and she too came back positive for breast cancer. Once again immediately she too was scheduled for surgery. This further devastating family and friends as both sisters were now on this journey together.

 For those of you who know Judith and Edith, you would agree, they are both the kindest, most caring people you will ever meet. They have dedicated their lives to helping children with disabilities in the schools. Judith has been with the public schools as an educational assistant for 15 years. Edith has also worked for the public schools for 16 years, as an educational assistant. Both have touched the lives of so many children and families throughout the years. Their focus for many years has been helping others. Now it was time for them to take care of themselves and each other as they take necessary steps for treatment.

 Over the past few weeks both Judith and Edith have undergone surgery. However their journey is not over yet. They both have ongoing follow up appointments to attend to. One who needs chemotherapy.  The cost of surgery, ongoing appointment and now chemotherapy has caused significant additional financial burden due to these unexpected expenses.

 The family of Judith and Edith has created this GoFundMe page in attempt to offer some much-needed comfort and financial assistance during this devastating time. Money will go to both sisters in effort to assist with paying medical bills, ongoing treatment and financial support for unpaid time off.
