Sisters for Sisters Fun Run
Me, my sisters Rabia, Sofia, Tahira & Farjana and my nieces Zaynab & Ruqqayah have joined forces to do a 10k fun run for SKY Positive Minds Bangladesh Appeal 2020 in memory of our beloved late father/grandfather Abdul Mosabbir.
Sunday 19th July 2020 at Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury from 10am
Dad was an incredible man. He was orphaned at a very young age when he lost all of his family members through Malaria in Bangladesh. Since arriving in the U.K. at a young age he lived in Oldham. A place he never left out of love for the people there and community. In his latter years he travelled back and forth to Bangladesh. He loved his home land and loved the people there too.
Dad was a poor man all of his life and didn’t really own anything. He lived like a traveller in this world until the end, yet he always gave from the very little he had. He some how just hustled his way through life with no real support or guidance.
We were raised alone by our mother, however, you could see the sadness and regret in his eyes for not being there for us. To fill this void he desperately loved his grandchildren, he’d be so happy when we'd go and see him with the kids.
In 2019 we visited my dads village in Bangladesh which is still amongst the poorest in the world. We met a lot of people who knew dad and they spoke highly of him, his regret and concerns for us and sadness he felt believing none of his children would return to his home land and trace his roots.
He loved Bangladesh and was proud of his country and village. Towards the end of his life he would spend much of his time there, he loved the open green space, loved breathing it’s air and being surrounded by poor people who loved him and were in absolute awe of him. He just wanted to be at peace and that’s what he got from his village. No hustle, no rushing, no noise, just peace, calm and tranquillity.
Dad always wanted his resting place to be in his village, but he feared we as his children would bury him in the UK. But, Allah listened and knew what was in his heart. Dad made his final trip to Bangladesh in 2009 and passed away from a minor road traffic incident which led to a brain haemorrhage. These were just means. His time was up and his resting place was meant to be his village.
The whole of the Oldham community and the villagers in Bangladesh mourned his death and the amount of people that turned up at his funeral and prayed for him was amazing. Subhan'Allah.
He sacrificed his life for others, lived with nothing yet somehow found room to give to others. He loved the poor and they loved him too for his kindness and generosity and concern he had for them.
Our trip in 2019, many people said we were just like our dad, we talked like him, their eyes lit up when we spoke just like him and that we were straight up in our conversations just like him . They were delighted to see us as it felt like they were seeing him again and repeatedly talked about how proud he would have been if he was alive to see us in his village amongst the poor whom he loved.
May Allah forgive him and his shortcomings, he was alone in this world, just somehow hustled through. May his grave be enlightened and his resting place be a piece of Jannah. We love you dad, we are sorry we couldn’t do too much to help you whilst you were here in the duniya but we pray Allah accepts our tiny efforts of charity and make it a means of continuous reward for you and gives you all that you deserve and more now in your barzakh. We beg Allah that He unites us all in His eternal gardens of jannahtul firdous. Ameen.
We want to carry on our dads legacy, a legacy of kindness and generosity. We want to go back to his village time and time again and walk in his footsteps of loving the poor and keeping them close. Allah tells us we must love the poor, seek their duas and keep them close to us. If we do, then Allah will be close to us, and for us this is what it is about. Seeking Allah’s nearness and acceptance.
Please will you join us in making a difference? Bangladesh still lacks basic sanitation with no real clean water or toilet facilities, and so people are still exposed to risk of disease and infection and a poor, limiting quality of life. We are raising money in aid of SKY Positive Minds Bangladesh Appeal and every donation will help.
SKY Positive Minds is a charity that empowers women and children locally, nationally and internationally to become emotionally resilient so that they can deal with life's challenges with greater positivity and strength.
May Allah accept all of your efforts big or small. May it weigh tremendously on our scale of good deeds and may it be a means of gaining Allah’s Love & Mercy and ultimate acceptance into his paradise.
