My name is Nathan Amani-Luiru. For more than a year, I’ve been working directly with Sister Scholastica, a nun in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo who has devoted her life to caring for abandoned children and families living through conflict.
In the war-torn Bukavu/Kivu region where many children have lost parents, stability, and safety. In a place where violence has stripped away nearly everything, education remains the one reliable pathway to stability and opportunity. Without space to learn, these kids are left with fewer options and far greater risk of exploitation, violence, and lifelong poverty.
Right now, Sister Scholastica’s school in Mashingi (Bukavu) urgently needs temporary outdoor seating and learning space, so it can serve more than 300 orphans who are currently overcrowded or unable to attend. This is a simple, immediate solution that creates room for children to sit, learn, and stay on track while longer-term classroom construction continues.
Sister Scholastica is also developing lasting infrastructure, working to add nine classrooms and has already helped families with affordable housing, constructing over 40 homes for homeless families.
I’m launching this fundraiser to support her work and to ensure more children get an opportunity that many take for granted. Our goal is to raise as much as possible by the beginning of fall, when school starts. Your contribution directly helps create safe learning space and gives these kids a real chance for a future.
