Sister Gooden (Miss Joy) was diagnosed with pulmonary melanoma cancer of the lung. Being a none-smoker this was quite shocking, however, the discovery was made that this cancer is not limited to smokers. Miss Joy’s first prognosis was that fluids were found around her lungs. It quickly progressed, and a tube was placed into her chest to drain said fluids. She is currently in a-lot of pain that has shown no signs of improvement. The current stage of the cancer is 4, and the doctors have recommended that we do not proceed with chemo or any other extensive treatments as they might do more harm than good. The family’s only objective now is to ensure that the loved Hortense Gooden, (Miss Joy) is not left to suffer but be cared for as best as possible. The current fragility of her state means that she’ll require a hospital bed, 24hr care of nurses and an on call palliative care doctor. We are unable to financially afford this and as such are desperately asking the public for help.
