In tribute to Sir David Amess MP

On Friday, October 15, Essex and the whole of the UK was rocked by the news of the fatal stabbing of Sir David Amess MP.

It is a dark day now carved into our nation’s history; people up and down the country continue to grieve and come to terms with the loss of the much-loved MP.

Politics aside, Sir David was known as a man respected and revered for being an unfailingly kind person, who always strived to help others.

Aside from his passionate bid for Southend’s city status, Sir David was a fierce animal-rights campaigner. His Westminster office was reportedly filled with budgies and fish and he was constantly seen and pictured with dogs in his arms.

In times of tragedy, we believe it is crucial to unite and support one another. It is why EssexLive has decided to raise money for a charity that Sir David held dear to his heart.

Sir David was an honorary member of the British Veterinary Association (BVA), who set up the Animal Welfare Foundation to fund research, support veterinary education and crucially, debate on key animal welfare issues - something Sir David did throughout his long-standing career.

All funds raised will go towards the AWF to tackle issues such as the welfare of farm animals, designer dogs and puppy breeding.

Any donation, however small, will be greatly appreciated.
