Sir Boofhead Needs a New Hip!

New Fundraiser, Who dis?
So this is Max, but you can call him Sir Boofhead.

Despite his boofy-head, he is only a pup... a very large boxer x dane pup. I rescued him from death-row only two months ago at the tender and mischievous age of only 8 months.  We usually spend our days learning new tricks like turn-around or roll-over, or exploring hiking trails, or going for runs.

But now, at the ripe old age of only 10 months, Max is staring down the barrel of a total hip replacement - yep, like your Grandma, but without a public health system to bail him out.

So What Happened?
On Monday 25th of May, Max was T-boned on the side by a huge playmate at the dog park and has consequently dislocated his hip. After an incredibly traumatic visit to emergency, Max was sent home with painkillers and a diagnosis of bilateral hip dysplasia. Two days later, I bundled my baby 31kg pooch into the back of my corolla back to emergency after 48 hours of excruciating pain for another series of x-rays and more street-grade high-class painkillers.

Anyone who knows the sound of a dog yelping in pain knows how heart-wrenching that feeling is. And with no way of telling him what is going on or why he can't come upstairs any more or cuddle in my bed anymore, the only thing left to do was get the sleeping bag out and join my Boofhead on the floor for nights of cuddles.

After a week of research and various opinions, I finally got a straight answer - Max had a dislocated hip needs a total hip replacement on the right-hand side. There is no alternative - no "wait and see" if it will heal, no "manage with exercise and diet". It was this, or the unspoken other option.

How Can You Help?
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as Medicare for doggos, and with the absence of pet insurance due to (ironically) lack of funds right now due to COVID, this surgery requires full payment.

A total hip replacement will cost $7,000.

I've already spent almost $2,000 on emergency visits, x-rays, painkillers, referrals etc. And there will be follow up costs of more x-rays and consultations.

Now I get it - we're in the middle of one of the worst financial crises the world has ever seen, so perhaps you don't have anything money to donate. So another way you could help would be to share the link / post with anyone who know who may like to help.

Okay... But Why?
Yes, okay. I completely understand that spending $7,000 on a dog, who I've only known for two months, in the middle of a global recession MAY not seem like the most intelligent use of money. But let me bore you with a little sob story for a minute.

Yes, I rescued this dog. But nowhere near as much as this dog has rescued me. As someone with mental health battles, this pooch has taken me from some dark places this year and given me love, happiness and purpose again.

Also... I really need to get him back sitting down so I can continue to feed him treats:

Or show magic tricks to him:

Okay, Wrap It Up Now:

So if you can help, please do. You'll be saving a life of the biggest "manliest baby" (as he's been referred to at the dog park), and you'll be saving me. This dog is my everything, and I need him to bounce back from this with all the gusto and grace of a lanky adolescent boxer dane.

Much love,

Alana and Maximillion Maxilicious Mooface (Sir Boofhead).
xx
