SIOUX FALLS SCHOOL LUNCH DEBT
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser hosted by The Casual Campfire Supply Co. and the Sioux Falls chapter of the Guardians of the Children.
In January 2023, the Sioux Falls school district is carrying a school lunch deficit of approximately $110,000. The impact of this debt is that children who come to school with a negative lunch account balance are not given food to eat at breakfast or lunch. In Sioux Falls, one in six children lives in food insecurity - meaning that school is the most reliable source of calories for 17% of k-12 students.
The mission of this fundraiser is to eliminate this immediate debt, and hopefully surpass it, so that families can rest assured that their account balance is positive and that their children will be given meals at school.
The secondary mission of this fundraiser is to bring awareness to the issue that this is not only a problem in January of 2023. If at any time the school lunch debt surpasses the balance of the account and the Angel Fund (made up of donations) - children with past due lunch accounts are not fed. One fundraiser can fix the issue one time, but a sustainable solution is needed and required if our children are going to be able to rely on food during the school day.
