Sing Like a Bird

I'm a classical singer, and I love birds. I'll be donating the money I receive from my August 15 recital in DC to the American Bird Conservancy . Why not expand to GoFundMe to see if I can raise a little more than the cash in the donation box? 100% of proceeds (after GoFundMe's small per-donation fee) will go to the American Bird Conservancy . This 4-star charity has impressed me with its efforts in education, conservation, advocacy, and spreading the joy that birds bring to our lives.

My fundraising goal of $2040 is symbolic. I'm singing a song called "Meadowlarks" by the composer Amy Beach (1867-1944), a musical setting of the poem by Ina Coolbrith (1841-1928), California's first poet laureate. It is estimated that by the year 2040, half of the Eastern meadowlarks in the United States will disappear. Their Western counterpart , whose haunting song Amy Beach recalls in her music, are not far behind, as grasslands are threatened by development, pesticides, and monoculture farming. Let's save them!
