Single Mother and Aspiring Nurse Battling Cancer
Donation protected
Jennifer Shore is a hard-working mother, beloved friend to many and was an aspiring nurse before her disease dominated her priorities – all in Seattle, Washington. She is now fighting for her life in quarantine at this very moment - and desperately needs the help of others.
Jen traveled the West Coast helping sick family members the last couple years. She has moved between Seattle, Los Angeles and Phoenix in order to deliver them personalized care. Jennifer has looked out for the benefit of so many other people, while pushing through two jobs, college, and raising her daughter as a single mother on her own.
While helping an elderly family member in Phoenix, Jen began having severe dizzy spells. She initially attributed these episodes to the summer heat wave, until they started becoming more frequent. Realizing this could be a new symptom for her previously benign and stable brain tumor of a decade ago, Jen consulted doctors close to her to get tested again. Because of a recently performed regularly scheduled MRI, the doctors stated there was no reason for concern as her state of remission could not have regressed that quickly – resulting in them not recommending to push up a subsequent testing date.
When Jennifer’s regularly scheduled MRI date arrived and was completed, the results were catastrophic. Her stable, Stage 2 Oligodendroglioma tumor had suddenly metastasized into a much larger Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma tumors are immensely rare, and are the most aggressive and fast-growing form of brain cancer. With Jen being so young and otherwise extremely healthy, this was an utterly shocking and terrifying diagnosis.
Distraught, Jen moved back to her home city of Seattle to receive the opinions and care of her original doctors that diagnosed the benign tumors a decade ago. This is precisely when the COVID-19 pandemic sprung onto the global stage. Jen received an extremely invasive brain surgery, which took her peripheral vision and part of the movement on her right side. It was the best option, along with the chemo and radiation treatments, to buy her more time.
Jen’s path going forward requires bi-weekly IV chemo treatments, and the hopes of entering into clinical trials for a chance of more time; all along with constant nutritional and holistic based efforts of healing. These are all last-ditch efforts to slow the progression of this terrible disease – to give her as much time as humanly possible with her daughter, Kali, who is without any doubt going to be fully lost without her dear mother. With this knowledge, Jen is pushing through treatments with every last ounce of strength, and is now on her 11th chemotherapy infusion. The extreme rate of growth of the tumor has slowed somewhat, and we all hope and pray that Jen is one of the 1% of lucky cases that can halt the devastating predicted outcome of this disease.
Jennifer’s surgery bills, consultations with experts, chemotherapy and radiation treatments have put her into a deep financial hole. Jen just moved into a 500sq ft low income apartment in Seattle and can’t afford the daily needs a healthy person requires, let alone someone raising a young adult and undergoing such a rigorous medical feat – all during the pandemic, preventing the emotional help of visiting friends for fear of contracting the virus in her heavily fragile state.
Jen and Kali have nowhere to turn, except for the kind hearts of the public and community through the incredible GoFundMe platform - all in order to pay for general living expenses and to attempt to improve Jennifer’s comfort.
After Jennifer Shore has given back to so many in the community over the years, we hope and pray that the community will give back to her so she can at least be more comfortable during her borrowed time with us. Any amount of funds that you are able to contribute will be overwhelmingly spirit-lifting and unbelievably appreciated at the bottom of their hearts - and will go a long way towards their needs and quality of life.
