Single Mom, Veteran, Homeless — Help Them Find Safety

I'm reaching out today on behalf of a courageous woman who has dedicated her life to serving others but now finds herself in urgent need of help. She is a 55-year-old disabled veteran who is currently homeless, along with her 14-year-old daughter. Despite her bravery, strength, and determination, life has dealt her some incredibly difficult cards, and she is now in a situation that no one — especially a veteran who served her country — should ever have to face.

Due to serious health complications, including Lupus and severe bone issues, she is unable to work and has been struggling to stay afloat. Since April, she and her daughter have been living out of hotels — moving from one to another week after week. Their lives have been completely upended, with no stable roof over their heads and no place to truly feel safe.

What little income she receives from the VA each month is barely enough to cover the weekly costs of these hotel stays, leaving nothing left over to save for a permanent home. The weekly expense of hotels is far more than what rent on a modest apartment would be, but without the upfront cost of a deposit, first and last month's rent, and utility connections, she simply can't break this cycle.

To make matters worse, she and her daughter have had to move hotels three times — not by choice, but for their safety. Some of the environments have been unsafe and threatening, especially for a young teenage girl. Imagine trying to keep your child safe, fed, and attending school while living out of suitcases, unsure of where you'll be sleeping next week — or even tomorrow.

She is not someone who complains or asks for much. In fact, asking for help is something that doesn't come easily to her at all. But she's reached a point where there are no other options. Her support system is gone. Both of her adoptive parents have passed away, and all of her siblings are deceased. She is truly on her own, doing the best she can to provide some sense of normalcy and stability for her daughter while battling her own serious health conditions.

Despite everything, she remains hopeful. -+++++++++ She just needs help getting over this hurdle — the upfront costs that are standing between her and a stable, safe home for her and her child.
What She Needs
She’s not asking for a handout — just a hand up. She has steady monthly income from the VA, and once she secures an apartment, she’ll be able to maintain her rent and utilities on her own. What she needs now is help covering the upfront move-in costs that are keeping her trapped in this cycle of temporary housing and insecurity.

We are raising funds to cover:

First month’s rent

Last month’s rent

Security deposit

Utility and water deposits

These one-time costs typically total between $4,000 and $5,000 in her area. Once covered, she will finally be able to move into a safe, stable home and begin to rebuild a life of security and dignity for herself and her daughter.

Why This Matters
This woman served her country. She did her part — and more. Now, she’s asking for just enough help to give her child a roof over her head and a safe place to sleep. It’s heartbreaking that someone who wore the uniform and gave so much is now left feeling like she has nowhere to turn, no one to lean on, and no systems that truly care.

Her 14-year-old daughter is growing up in the middle of this instability. She's changing schools, missing out on normal teenage experiences, and enduring the emotional toll of constant upheaval. What this family needs more than anything is a chance to stop surviving and start living again.

They don’t need luxury. They just need a key to a door that locks, a space to call their own, and a little peace. A place where this mother can rest her body, manage her health, and finally feel safe. A place where her daughter can do her homework, sleep in the same bed every night, and start to feel like a kid again.

You Can Help
Please consider making a donation — no matter how small — to help this mother and daughter finally get a fresh start. Every dollar raised will go directly to housing and utility deposits. If you're unable to donate, you can still make a big difference by sharing this campaign with friends, family, coworkers, and on social media.

It can feel like the world is full of bad news, but there is still so much good in it — and that good lives in people like you. Together, we can help give this veteran and her daughter something that’s been out of reach for far too long: stability, safety, and the dignity of a home.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read their story. Your compassion and generosity can help change their lives.

Let’s bring this mother and daughter home.
