Single mom fights cancer for the third time!

My best friend, Cristin Polizzi is a single mom to a 13 yr old girl, Ava. She was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Leiomyosarcoma back in 2018, which showed itself in her uterus first. Since this diagnosis Cristin has had multiple reoccurrences that have lead to a hysterectomy, piece of her lung and rib needing removal, multiple rounds of chemo, and most recently a tumor that needed to be removed from her cerebellum. The tumor had made Cristin unable to walk, talk correctly, and write or perform basic motor functions much of the time. Things like eating and swallowing were impeded and she has lost a significant amount of weight that she is now trying to regain.

On December 21st she went into the hospital and was transferred from a Jefferson to Penn Medicine after discovering the tumor in her brain. This surgery was done out of network from her insurance in order to receive the best possible care and ensure she can recoup and take care of her daughter.

Currently, Cristin is learning how to write, walk, and care for herself on her own again thanks to family, friends, and home health workers. She ensures a loving, positive atmosphere for her child and had been working until this tumor made that unable to continue in November.

There is a long road to recovery ahead of Cristin but she has tried to show everyone she knows how beautiful healing can be. Taking this on with grace and power and we hope to be able to help ease the financial strain attached to the life saving procedures she has undergone to keep her here with us.
