Single mom diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer

Hi everyone,

My name is suhara basheer, and I’m a 20 year old single mom to my sweet one year old baby. Life changed drastically for me and my little family recently when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Adenocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer. This news came completely out of nowhere and has left us overwhelmed and heartbroken.

It all started when I noticed a lump on my neck a little over a month ago. I had no other symptoms just the lump. After several CT scans, bloodwork, and consultations, doctors found signs of cancer that had already spread to my chest and armpit. Despite trying antibiotics, nothing improved, and a biopsy confirmed the worst: Stage 4 cancer that has already spread to other parts of my body. This type of cancer has no permanent cure and is known to return even after treatment.

I met with an oncologist who recommended starting chemotherapy immediately due to high tumor markers in my blood. I will be getting more scans soon to determine the full extent of the cancer and to see if surgery is an option to remove any affected areas. I have now been referred to a gynecologic oncologist and have begun the process of seeking specialized treatment in india.

As a young mother, this diagnosis has turned our lives upside down. I’ve gone from running after my toddler every day to now fighting for my life. I never imagined I’d be facing something like this at such a young age. It’s terrifying, confusing, and emotionally exhausting but I’m trying to stay strong for my child and my parents.
