Single Father Suffers Major Heart Attack & Stroke

Donation protected
Al Brenner is a devoted and beloved father, brother, co-worker, and friend. He is the single father of a 15-year-old son and has two other young sons ages 11 and 13. He has always tried to take good care of himself and his family.

On November 1, 2019, he suffered a heart attack and stroke while at work. Fortunately, a co-worker was nearby and called for immediate help. He was hospitalized in the ICU, intubated and sedated for almost four days.

While he is now able to speak briefly and walk very short distances with great difficulty, he remains hospitalized and when he has recovered sufficiently from the stroke, he will require open heart surgery to address heart vessel blockages that were discovered in the hospital.

Recovery will take a matter of months at the least, and will require much physical, speech, and occupational therapy. It will be at least several months before he might be able to work again, under the best circumstances. He will likely need to find a less physically demanding type of work than what he's been doing.

Al's medical insurance is minimal, and there are and will be many unpaid medical bills and expenses in the next few months. So far, the initial care he received cost over $250,000, and that number increases each day. The deductible and co-pay for this care is over $13,000.

Because Al worked for a small employer, he has no benefits other than State Disability, and his sisters are working on applying for all other government benefits that might apply. The family has paid Al's November rent, but the bills pile up daily, and our resources are stretched.  December rent and other ordinary bills will still need to be paid, and when Al doesn't work, he has no income.

Family, friends, and Al's fellow congregants of the Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley and Rocky Peak Church are working together to ensure that Al's son is cared for by an adult, and providing food for Al's son and sister Donna, who's currently in Simi to help out.

Your donation helps Al keep a home for himself and his son, and helps cover the bills that are expected and unexpected during this period of recovery and transition.  Donations in any amount, as well as your prayers and good wishes, are greatly appreciated!

We thank you so much for your support!

With love,

Al's sisters Marcia Fisher, Donna Brenner, and Helen Sabo
