Hi, my name is Joshua, and I'm a single father raising my 7-year-old daughter, Coraline, with full custody. On November 19th, I was unexpectedly let go from my job after I expressed my need to attend my daughter’s Thanksgiving lunch at school.

As a full-time single father, I've worked hard to provide for my daughter, despite facing many challenges. I’m her primary caregiver and the only parent she has to show up for her important events. I had been upfront with my supervisor about needing time off to attend this school event, and I even requested to use PTO. However, I was still let go later that day, with the reason cited as "insubordination." This sudden loss of income has left me in a difficult financial situation, and with no warning, I now face the risk of being unable to pay rent this month.

A little about my background: about five years ago, I became a full-time single father with full custody of my daughter. My ex-partner is not involved much, and I’ve been doing everything I can to make sure our lives remain stable. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve always managed to keep a roof over our heads, until now.

In addition to the emotional toll of losing my job, I also live with cerebral palsy, which makes finding a new job even more challenging. The physical limitations, combined with my responsibilities as a single parent with a busy schedule of school and sports activities, make it hard to secure stable work.

The pay slip I received for my final paycheck was also missing hours worked, making things even harder for us financially. As a result, I’m struggling to make ends meet and can't afford to pay rent for this month.
