Single Dad struggling after devastating theft
Donation protected
Update: Fox 4 News contacted me and wants to do an interview. I agreed. Hopefully the awareness combined with the camera footage will lead to something.
My name is Jason and I'm a single father of three young daughters running a small lawn maintenance business in South Kansas City.
My trailer and lawn mowers were recently stolen from a dealership in Grandview where I was getting work done on the trailer. They are not taking responsibility for the loss.
I have always worked hard to make ends meet.
I have spent most of my career in law enforcement serving my community. Left law enforcement all together and pursued my own small business for flexibility and less stress.
Balancing a day job in lawn care with a night job, I've tried hard to keep up with care of my children, and the rising cost of living.
Now, without my equipment, I'm at risk of losing customers and the ability to make ends meet.
The theft couldn't have come at a worse time. Unfortunately I didn't have commercial insurance to cover it. It's a total loss that threatens to unravel everything I've built.
I feel bad even running this ad because I know there are people out there with way worse situations than mine. However, any help would mean the world to me and my daughters.
I doubt I will raise enough to purchase new equipment, so may have to put a down payment and finance if I'm able to. Still trying to rebuild my credit after divorce.
I'm not one to ask for handouts, but this unexpected setback has left me with few options. In the past I'm usually the one helping other people out... That's my nature.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will help me get back on my feet and continue providing for my family.
My goal amount probably seems really high, and I feel bad even setting it at that number. That's just the total amount of loss for the equipment.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others who might be able to help. And if course keeping me in your prayers. Your kindness and support during this challenging time are deeply appreciated.
Update: The company, Trailers Direct in Grandview, has told me that they have signs up on their property that says they are not responsible for theft of customer's property, they are not willing to cover any of the loss. I have never seen those signs before. Hopefully they didn't put the signs up after the fact. If I would have known, I would never have left my equipment there. Suspiciously, the one camera that was needed wasn't working. And they always block their gates with other trailers, but ironically one of the gates was left unblocked that night. Sounds like an inside job.
