About Sinai

The Sinai peninsula, set between Africa and Asia is predominantly known for it's famous beaches and dive sites like Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh.

For a few years now also the climbing community has gained some momentum. While back in the day climbers were mostly drawn in by the blank mountain-sides of the greater St. Catherine area, more recently a lot of development took place also in the Wadis around Dahab, Nuweiba and Ras Sudr, near the beach resorts of the Red Sea.

To this day printed information about these areas remains sparse and outdated. Especially the newer development in the Wadis and countless first ascents of the past 20 years are only documented in a few publications online and in very few magazines.

About the book

On roughly 250 pages and with an edition of 750 books (printing quoted at 5000-6000€) we will provide travelling climbers with the information needed to gain access to the beautiful climbing areas of Sinai and the captivating culture of it's Bedouin tribes.

The breakdown

-5600€ quoted to us for printing cost(750books)

-400€ for possible price fluctuations, otherwise going to non-profit bolting and rebolting projects in Sinai

We will use the money raised exclusively for necessary expenses related to printing and publishing this guidebook and will provide a detailed expense sheet to our donors.

Printing will start as early as November if we reach our goal. If we come short of the target we will reassess our options for smaller editions but still will try to get the books into stores before Christmas.

Any funds raised beyond covering our cost is going towards bolting and rebolting projects in Sinai.

About the authors

The authors Timo Elony and Wolfgang Vogl are actively supporting the development of rock climbing in this region since 2017 and are guiding trips to the sometimes remote climbing areas here. Furthermore they have been facilitating the bolting of over half of all existing routes as well as the education of local bedouin and Egyptian climbers to become climbing instructors since 2019.

Please help us to take a further milestone for the development of rock climbing in the area and publish this guidebook.
