Simon's Fundraiser for AUW
On August 15th I'll be racing in the ‘Escape from Alcatraz’ triathlon in support of AUW, a nonprofit that supports disadvantaged women from some of the most marginalized populations of Asia and the Middle East, including Rohingya refugees, garment factory and tea plantation workers, as well as residents of active war zones. 85% of students are on full scholarship and over 70% of the women return to their communities to work in their governments to set policies empowering women or starting their own businesses.
I joined the advisory board of AUW last year and have been so impressed with their impact in the region and their commitment to educating women as a path to equity and justice. Throughout much of the developing world, girls and women have limited access to education compared to boys and men and the disparity increases significantly at higher levels of education, reaching its largest divide at university. Women from rural and poor populations are particularly disadvantaged in their educational opportunities.
As part of my role at AUW, I am also mentoring a young woman from Kabul and trying to help her build a career in software development. Meeting Malika and witnessing the challenges she must overcome have also brought this cause very close to my heart and I would be incredibly grateful if you could support me in raising money for this wonderful organization, so women like Malika can aspire to a better future for themselves, their families, and communities.
With your help, I'm hoping to get a head start in raising enough funds to pay for a year of tuition at AUW (currently $15k p.a.) and help provide a young woman with the opportunity to achieve a better future.
Thank you in advance for supporting me in reaching my goal and contributing to a cause that means so much to me. Every amount will make a difference.
