Simon's Cancer & Jamieson's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Hi, hello. It's me, Jamieson. First, thank you for just being here. Asking for help is really hard, and even if you're unable to donate, having someone to listen is huge.

I was swept up in company-wide layoffs back in March. Unfortunately, the day after losing my job, I found out Simon had an aggressive form of cancer. I was confident I'd acquire a new role as a copywriter, so I focused on caring for Simon. Fast forward 5 months, 200+ applications, 2 interviews, 1 rejection, and 1 ghosting later... I have reached the end of my emergency fund (aka: my line of credit). I am 1-2 months away from being, for lack of a better term, f*cked. Thanks, generative AI.

I am taking on odd jobs like a hungry hippo munching marbles, but I have finally admitted to myself that it's not enough. I require community support.

Luckily, I co-parent Simon with a wonderful dog Dad who supports 50% of Simon's bills. Unluckily, I have essential surgery mid-September that is going to put me out of commission for 6-8 weeks.

Being unable to take on physical work, which is what's been keeping my head just above water, is a terrifying prospect. Currently, my monthly bills are more than what I am earning, and I'm scared of what will happen when the little I am bringing in stops.

I probably waited too long to ask for help, but I just kept thinking: "You can do this on your own. Keep grinding, keep working hard. You can take care of yourself!"

I fear my stubbornness will be my undoing. So I am putting my ego aside and asking for mutual aid from my community. Even if I don't hit my goal in its entirety, anything would be huge.

Thank you for helping save Simon's life, and, in turn, mine.

ALSO, if you hear of a remote in-house role or freelance writing work, I am available, and I promise I don't suck: www.jamwrite.com

Donation Ask:

The $30,000 goal is to help ease the current debt, both for Simon's vet bills and my additional surgery costs, and to provide me with a small buffer for my basic needs, base bills, and future vet costs as I continue the incredibly humbling journey of job hunting. The added $3k is to account for GoFundMe's fees.

Simon is currently still in treatment, so it's a bit unknown what the overall cancer cost will end up being. But he's responding well to chemo, except for developing inflammation in one nostril that has turned him into a little orange Snorlax. But at least the congestion wasn't from another tumour! I'll take glopy snores over that any day.
