The Dream: 12 Years to This Moment

Hello everyone! Thank you for visiting my page and for taking a moment to hear about a dream that's been 12 years in the making. My name is Simone, and I am a Junior at Anderson High School with a passion for Mandarin language and culture that developed before I could even tie my shoes. Since Kindergarten, I've been enrolled in our district's Mandarin Immersion program. That means for half of every Elementary school day, I learned Math, Science, in Mandarin while learning how to write, read, and speak in Mandarin. From my first hesitant character drawing at age five to debating complex topics today, Mandarin isn't just a subject—it's woven into the fabric of who I am.

This summer, I have been selected for an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to travel to China with my teachers and fellow students. I will also be acting as a mentor for the 4th grade Mandarin Immersion students that will coming on the trip with us.

This isn't just a vacation; it's the Capstone Project of my entire K-11 academic journey. It's a chance to immerse myself fully, test my fluency in real-world situations, and experience firsthand the rich culture I've studied for so long. Imagine finally walking the Great Wall, negotiating in local markets, and conversing with native speakers after more than a decade of dedicated study!
